Backyard Patios in an Established Neighborhood
A lot of mid-century homes here have a concrete patio poured at the same time as the house, sometimes with a newer wood deck built beside it. Under mature trees, both stay shaded and pick up leaf stains, algae and moss. By spring the patio can be slippery and the deck boards a dull gray-green.
Covered patios have their own problem: spider webs and mildew on the ceiling and posts, which a soft wash clears away.

Matching the Method to the Surface
Concrete patios clean best with a surface cleaner for an even finish. Wood decks need low pressure, since aging boards splinter and fur up when blasted. We soft wash the wood and rinse it gently.
If your deck is due for a new coat of stain, cleaning first gives the stain something solid to grip.
