Mature Trees and Two-Story Rooflines
Many Felida streets are lined with big deciduous trees and stands of fir. In autumn, leaves pile into the gutters by the bagful, and firs keep adding needles long after the leaves are gone. Taller two-story homes are harder to keep up with yourself, because the upper gutters are well out of reach of a step ladder. That is often the run that gets skipped, and it is usually the one that overflows first.
Lake Air Keeps Roofs Damp
With Vancouver Lake and the lowlands to the south, the air here holds plenty of moisture through the wet months. Roofs stay damp, moss takes hold on the shady side, and runoff carries it into the gutters. Over a season that turns into a thick, waterlogged mat that clogs downspouts and adds weight to the gutter.
Why Homeowners Skip the Upper Run
Cleaning a second-story gutter means a tall extension ladder, a steep pitch and a bucket of wet muck at arm’s length. Most people reasonably decide it is not worth the risk. We bring the right ladders and do the high runs as carefully as the low ones, so nothing on the house gets left half done.
Where Overflow Goes
Blocked gutters push water back toward the roof edge or straight over the front lip. Water against the fascia can rot the board and the roof sheathing behind it over time. Water spilling to the ground lands next to the foundation, where it can show up as a damp basement wall or a wet crawlspace. It also streaks the siding and splashes dirt onto the lower walls.

Our Process for Felida Gutters
- Hand-clear the troughs, upper and lower runs alike, and bag the debris.
- Downspout flush (add-on). Want water run through every downspout to confirm it drains? Ask about our downspout flush add-on. If we spot a blockage underground or out of reach, we point it out.
- Soft wash the gutter faces at low pressure to remove black streaks and algae.
- Rinse the roofline, including fascia and soffits.
After a Roof Moss Treatment
If we soft wash your roof, we clean the gutters afterward. Dead moss keeps sliding off for several rains, and leaving it in the gutters would bring the overflow right back. See what a roof moss job looks like in our roof moss soft wash write-up.
